A well-known miracle in the Bible is the story where Jesus walked on the water. (Mark 5:45-56) Remember? Soon after feeding five thousand people on five loaves of bread and two fish, a bit of a miracle there too, Jesus sends his disciples in a boat to Bethsaida. He went on a mountain to pray and the disciples went out in the middle of the lake.
A storm came up, the disciples got afraid, Jesus walked on water, the disciples think he's a ghost and cried out, terrified.
The bible says that "Immediately he spoke to them and said, 'Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid.'"
I've looked at this several ways and the best I can take from this is that just as those disciples were handing out food just a few hours ago, handing bread and fish to the poor and hungry - "Here, take some." - I'm thinking it was about the same way Jesus was handing them courage at the same time.
Take some courage. Here. Open your hands and take some. It's yours. It's free. I've got lots to share.
Take all you need.
When you take my courage, I'm with the courage, I am the Courage, I am the fearlessness. I am the boldness you need. I am Valor. I am audacity. I am giving it to you to simply....take.
Courage is a gift He's given me. It's a gift He's given you. It's not in our nature to be brave, to be strong, to be fearless. It's in our nature to fear, to be timid, to be cowards.
But His nature, in us, by His blood, by His sacrifice, by His resurrection, it's in me now! It's in you, if He's in you! If you are His child, He's in you. His courage is in you. His fearlessness. His strength. His hope. His spunk. His guts. His nerve. It's in us. Just take it. Use it.
Open your hands. He's putting courage in them.
Now use it! Walk where you're afraid you'll sink. Talk where you're afraid you'll be shouted down. Breathe in His courage.
The storms are going to come. Some are already here. Only He can stop the storm, but He's given us the courage to ride it out until He stills the storm.
Take courage! It's Him! Don't be afraid!
